Summary

Jackie Robinson summery

This story is about Jackie Robinson and about how his life changed with the help of Branch Rickey. A man named Branch Rickey's goal was to end segregation in baseball. He met a man named Charley Thomas. An African American who wasn't allowed to stay at the same hotel but he told Charley that "Charley," Mr. Rickey said, "the day will come when they won't have to be white." (Pg. 810). So Rickey look for a noble African American player for the white team, but he couldn't have anyone founding out so he shrewdly covers it by saying he was creating a "Negre League". That's when Jackie was offered for the job, when he was offered, his emotion went crazy. He was thrilled, scared, and excited but most of all, he was speechless. Which is normal, it's part of being human. Anyway then Rickey asked him "Robinson" he said "I'm looking for a ballplayer with guts enough not to fight back" (pg. 818). Robinson was angered by it at first but he he say he'll be willing to play the game without fighting. Wendell a sports editor for the Black Pittsburg Courier, asked Robinsin to try-out for the Brown Dodgers (all African Ameican league).

Theme

Title: I need my monster

The conflict of "I Need My Monster" is that a boy was missing his monster named Gabe who went out for fishing for the week. The boy was devastated because he couldn't fall asleep without Gabe. To fix his problem, he summoned 4 different types of monsters but none of the monsters were working out for him. The kid wanted a monster that had a long claws, long tail and scary sounds but none of those monsters had either or both. The monsters told the kid that he was being picky. The theme is: Change is difficult.
